Discover Cirey Castle

A castle at the heart of the Age of Enlightenment

The Château de Cirey was marked by the presence of Voltaire, who stayed there for 15 years, from 1734 to 1749, invited by the Marquise du Châtelet, a renowned physicist and metaphysician. Ambitious, eager for independence, and the object of jealousy and envy, Émilie du Châtelet ventured into the male-dominated world of science. A tireless worker, she was one of the most brilliant minds of the Enlightenment.

By immersing yourself in the life of Voltaire and the Marquise du Châtelet, the guided tour of the castle will allow you to discover a refined setting: salons, Emilie du Châtelet's bedroom, large dining room, library, kitchens and a unique place, Voltaire's small theatre.

An attraction not to be missed in Haute-Marne.
