The park of Cirey Castle
A park shaped over the centuries
Enjoying a commanding position above the Blaise valley, situated in the heart of a verdant setting, the castle offers a large park with two gardens.
The first garden, created in the 18th century by Voltaire and Emilie du Châtelet, is currently being renovated. Hornbeam hedges, fruit trees, and a lime tree avenue are gradually emerging from the ground to redraw, in a more contemporary style, the lines of this lost landscape.
A second picturesque garden, created in the 19th century, takes advantage of the terrain and borders the canal.
This garden was partly designed by the landscape architect Count Paul Lavenne de Choulot. It still boasts beautiful trees, including centuries-old plane trees, a charming humpbacked bridge, and a curiosity: the chalet-style renovation of the former gardener's house belonging to Voltaire and Emilie du Châtelet.
So many gardens, so many discoveries, awaiting walkers.
A must-see tourist site in Cirey-sur-Blaise.
